This is a true Sierra forest setting, so wildlife sightings are part of the experience. You may see deer, bears, elk (recently introduced to the area), bobcats, and—more rarely—mountain lions. You may also encounter snakes and skinks.
We ask all guests to respect wildlife and keep a safe distance. Absolutely NO hunting is allowed on the property—this is a quiet, protected space for the animals that live here.
Because we’re in a wooded area, ticks can be present seasonally. We provide tick spray and strongly recommend using it before heading out on the trails, doing a quick tick check after being outdoors, and wearing long socks/pants if you’re hiking through brush. These steps help reduce the risk of tick bites and tick-borne illness (including Lyme disease).

Please treat this like bear country: don’t leave food, trash, or scented items outside or in your car (including coolers, toiletries, and pet food). Keep and dispose of food inside the Pinecone. If you’re unsure where to put something, keep it inside—this protects you, the Pinecone, and the wildlife.

Yes. To keep the property peaceful for everyone, we observe quiet hours from 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM. (Normal conversation is fine—just no loud music or amplified sound.)

Wood fires are not always allowed in the Sierra, and restrictions can change quickly. Before using the firepit, please check current rules the day of (and during your stay) using:
Sierra National Forest Alerts / Fire Restrictions (most relevant)
California Campfire Permit info (a permit may be required when fires are allowed)
CAL FIRE burn status (regional restrictions & conditions)
If the Sierra National Forest has an active Fire Restrictions Order, that overrides everything. In peak season, it’s common for all wood fires (including firepits) to be prohibited.
House rule: If there’s any restriction in effect—or if there are Red Flag warnings—please assume the wood firepit is not allowed.

Yes—this is a dark-sky area with very little ambient lighting, which makes for incredible stargazing. It also means it gets very dark outside after sunset. We provide flashlights inside the cabin for evening walks and getting around at night.

We do our best to make that easy with your stake, but nature changes over time. We’ll also share periodic updates so guests can follow the grove as it grows.
